Story of Alparslan Buyuk Selcuklu (Alparslan: Great Seljuks): Alparslan Buyuk Selcuklu - The life of Sultan Alparslan, the ruler of the Great Seljuk State, who defeated the Byzantine army in 1071 and opened the gates of Anatolia to the Turks. This is, Alparslan Buyuk Selcuklu (Alparslan: Great Seljuks).
Who is Sultan Alparslan?
Alparslan, also known as 'Adud'üd-devle Abu üca' Muhammed Alp Arslan bin Davud, was the second sultan of the Great Seljuk Empire, reigning from 1029 until 1072.
After waging war on the Byzantine Empire in 1068, the Turks were driven back to the Middle East by their victories; these victories drove the Byzantines to Manzikert to drive out the Turks. In 1071, Alp Arslan won the Battle of Manzikert, one of the most significant triumphs in Turkish history.
Byzantium was in a state of interregnum throughout this time. Alp Arslan saved the life of Byzantine Emperor Romanian Diogenes, instead tying him to a yearly tribute and imprisoning him for a while. When Romanian Diogenes, whose ransom had been paid, returned to his homeland, he was ousted and replaced by VII. He watched Michael rise to the throne as the next Byzantine emperor. He was thwarted in his attempts to reclaim his kingdom; he was imprisoned in a tiny fortress in Cilicia, from which he fled; he was transported to Istanbul and banished to the island of Proti (Kinaliada). He died as a result of an infection in the wound caused by his blindness. As a result, the tax payment agreement signed by Romanian Diogenes, who was seized at the conclusion of the Battle of Manzikert, was null and void.
